I love having 11 o'clock church, because it means I have time to actually put some effort into my 'Sunday Best.' This morning I curled my hair. That hasn't happened since before Evelyn was born!
Ben and I teach the 14-17 year old Sunday School class in our ward. Part of the premise of the youth curriculum is to help the youth prepare to teach the gospel, whether it be on a mission or in their everyday lives. So we decided that we would start having the youth teach the lesson every 2nd Sunday of the month. Today two of the young men in our class taught a lesson on recognizing Heavenly Father's hand in our lives daily. It was so neat to watch these two and listen to their testimonies. I'm so grateful for my calling and the opportunity that I have to teach these exemplary young men (we only have seven boys in our class - no girls). Sometimes I'm pretty sure that they are teaching me way more tha I will ever be able to teach them.
Evelyn has started a new "thing" at dinner time and it is driving me NUTS. At other times during the day she blows raspberries, and now that has worked its way into dinner time too. About half way through eating, she will start blowing raspberries and spraying her food all over me! And she thinks t is hilarious. I've tried telling her in a stern voice with a frown on my face to stop, I've tried covering her mouth with the spoon, and I've tried wiping her face (which she hates) every time she starts to spit. But she just keeps doing it. I'm not quite sure what to do.
She gave me a scare tonight during bath time. Sometimes she will turn on her side, but will turn back once her eye touches the water. So usually I don't worry too much when she starts to roll. Tonight she rolled all the way over and her face got all the way in the water. I picked her up immediately but she was kicking like crazy and having a hard time trying to get a breath. I pulled her out of the tub and held her on my shoulder and patted her back until she was breathig normally again. And then I held her a little longer. I didn't want to put her back in the water, but I knew that if I didn't she eould remember choking as her last experience with the water for that night and I didn't want that. She was nervous at first about going back in but after a few seconds she started playing like normal again. Sometimes being a mom is scary and hard. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.
